To the Muslims, Khat is known as “the flower of paradise.” The leaves of the mature plant are stimulanting much like those of tea or coffee but they do not contain caffeine.

The plants grow easily into a large shrub or small tree in sub-tropical locations. Khat is widely adaptable to different conditions and soils but seems to grow best in rich, moist, well-drained sandy soil in full sun (coastal) or light shade (inland). In its natural habitat, Yemen and Ethiopia, it grows to tree size on hill sides at about 6000′ elevation where it has a relatively stable temperature of 80º f. It is very easy to grow in Puerto Vallarta.

This sale is a packet of 20 fresh Khat, Catha edulis, seeds. They have recently been harvested from local plants and have high germination rates. This price is for the seeds being picked up here in Vallarta.

TRUE LEMON GRASS (CYMBOPOGAN CITRATUS): This is one of the best-tasting, easiest to grow plants for general kitchen use. It's a 2-5′ tall tropical clump-grass with a very strong lemon flavor familiar to all who eat Thai food.

Grow it in rich, well drained soil in full sun for best production. Grows easily and well in a pot or in the ground here in Vallarta.

Great as a tea and used in Southeast Asian cooking. Makes an excellent tea for upset stomachs if mixed with a little ginger. Known only in cultivation, it cannot be grown from seed.

This is a particularly fine strain that I grew and sold for years in my California Exotic Plant Nursery before moving to Vallart. I have several of these available and they are in half liter black plastic potting bagsand are each about 2' tall.

A very ornamental plant with large (up to one foot long), dark purple/green leaves on very long (one meter) dark purple stalks.

Loves to grow in moist ground and is also easy to grow in pots. I have only one of these and it is over a meter tall and planted in a 1 gallong black plastic bag.
